Despite being three of the most decorated gymnasts on the planet, there was still no shortage of nerve-wracking moments for Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee during the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics.
This may not have been too obvious due to the fact that the USA Gymnastics women’s team bagged a total of eight medals during the Paris Games. However, based on a recent revelation by Chiles, the nerves did get to them at times. Lee, in particular, had a bit of a moment ahead of the all-around team final on July 30. According to Chiles, she and Simone had to calm Suni down after the latter came out with a nervous confession right before their performance. “The biggest one that happened was when me, Suni and Simone had a talk before team finals,”
Chiles said in an interview on the “Chicks in the Office” show.
“It was something that Suni kind of needed to get off her chest. She was like, ‘I’m feeling some type of way.’ And we’re like, ‘Okay, we’re going to squash this right now. We’re going to do what we need to do and make sure you’re good going into team finals.’ “I think it’s really good being able to have somebody to lean and talk to and give a different direction on what that situation is you’re dealing with, and kind of get their opinion or their understanding as well.” Sunisa Lee, Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey, Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles after being selected for the 2024 U.S. Olympics.
They were outstanding in all four rotations — vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor — with Biles, Lee, Chiles, and Jade Carey all doing their part in the victory. Hezly Rivera, the fifth member of the squad, did not perform in the final. In the end, it was the Americans who bagged the gold medal with a final score of 171.926. They finished with a massive 5.802-point lead over silver medalists Italy (165.494), while Brazil finished third with a score of 164.497. As Chiles said, it’s necessary to have a good support system around you for the toughest of times. Thankfully for these girls, they have each other.
