Whispers from fans online raised hopes that 2024 VMA nominee Cardi B would pull up to the show tonight, but alas. Not the case. đ Instead, the rapper (who’s currently expecting her third child with ex Offset) skipped the NYC ceremony, cue the disappointed sighs. But at least we’ll always have her 2023 VMA performance with 2024 host Megan Thee Stallion to appreciate.
Cardi was nominated in the Best Latin category with Shakira for their collab âPunterĂa,â alongside fellow nominees Anitta for âMil Veces,â Bad Bunny for âMONACO,â KAROL G for âMI EX TENĂA RAZĂN,â Myke Towers for âLALA,â Peso Pluma & Anitta for âBELLAKEO,â and Rauw Alejandro for âTouching The Sky.â
Here’s the “PunterĂa” video, which features Cardi, Shakira, and a buncha centaurs.
Cardi interviewed Shakira on set of the music video, and said âWhen I first met Shakira, it was in Paris at the Fendi show, and I was very, very nervous. I was nervous because I wanted to get next to her, but I was like, âIâm not gonna get next to her until they call me.â I manifested it, but I didnât know when it was coming.â

Cardi described being asked to do the song as a “dream,” saying âI knew it. I knew this day would come. It came. God is good, Jesus. I donât care if she wants me to meow â Iâm doing it. I cannot wait. Seriously, that is my dream.â
She then told Shakira, âI always look at your videos and itâs so crazy doing a video with you because all of your videos, you could just tell you take your time from the angle, to the dancing, to the things that pop.â
