Ryan Reynolds Says His Kids with Blake Lively Also Hold Passports for Another Country: ‘Point of Pride’

The famous couple is parents to three daughters and a fourth baby, whose name and sex have not been announced yet.

Ryan Reynolds’ kids are proud American-Canadians.

During a light-hearted conversation, the Australian-born Hugh Jackman asked Reynolds if his kids identify as part Canadian. Jackman shared how it was crucial for his kids to feel connected to Australia.

“It was really important for us that we spent time in Australia…[and] they felt part Australian, and I’m really proud of that,” Jackman said about his kids, Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.

Jackman continued, “I think if you ask them, they’ll say, ‘I’m Australian,’ and they’ll add, ‘No, I’m American too, but I’m Australian.’ How about your kids, Ryan? Do they feel a connection to Canada?”

Reynolds responded warmly, “My kids have Canadian passports as well, and they feel a real connection to that. It’s a point of pride for them. They’ve spent a lot of their formative years in Canada, specifically in Vancouver.”

Joking about his career and growing family, Reynolds added, “I shot the first two Deadpool films in Vancouver. I had one child when we made Deadpool 1, and two during Deadpool 2. Hopefully, we won’t need a Deadpool 8 because I don’t want eight kids!”

On a more serious note, Reynolds shared, “They love being from Canada. They proudly tell people they’re ‘half Canadian and half American.’”

Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are parents to four children — Betty, 4, Ines, 7, James, 9, and a one-year-old whose name remains undisclosed.

Reynolds also wrote a heartfelt tribute to fellow Canadian actor Michael J. Fox for TIME magazine. The article highlighted Fox’s inclusion in TIME’s list of 100 Most Influential People and shared a touching ode to his influence.

“Last year, I watched Back to the Future with my then 8-year-old daughter. It quickly became her favorite movie,” Reynolds wrote. “For now, that’s enough for me—and for her. One more kid from one more generation sees what I saw.”

Reynolds added warmly, “I’m incredibly fortunate to call Mike a friend. My daughter doesn’t yet know that I know him, and I don’t need to teach her the empathy and storytelling skills that Mike has mastered. But what I do want to teach her is that it’s OK to fail often. It’s the best way to learn how to succeed.”
