Not the case. 😭 Instead, the rapper (who’s currently expecting her third child with ex Offset) skipped the NYC ceremony, cue the disappointed sighs. But at least we’ll always have her 2023 VMA performance with 2024 host Megan Thee Stallion to appreciate.

Cardi was nominated in the Best Latin category with Shakira for their collab “Puntería,” alongside fellow nominees Anitta for “Mil Veces,” Bad Bunny for “MONACO,” KAROL G for “MI EX TENÍA RAZÓN,” Myke Towers for “LALA,” Peso Pluma & Anitta for “BELLAKEO,” and Rauw Alejandro for “Touching The Sky.”

Cardi interviewed Shakira on set of the music video, and said “When I first met Shakira, it was in Paris at the Fendi show, and I was very, very nervous. I was nervous because I wanted to get next to her, but I was like, ‘I’m not gonna get next to her until they call me.’ I manifested it, but I didn’t know when it was coming.”

Cardi described being asked to do the song as a “dream,” saying “I knew it. I knew this day would come. It came. God is good, Jesus. I don’t care if she wants me to meow — I’m doing it. I cannot wait. Seriously, that is my dream.”

She then told Shakira, “I always look at your videos and it’s so crazy doing a video with you because all of your videos, you could just tell you take your time from the angle, to the dancing, to the things that pop.”
